Welcome to Uncle Paulie's
Located in Maywood, NJ, Uncle Paulie's Peruvian Chicken is a purveyor of authentic Peruvian recipes serving lunch and dinner, plus breakfast on the weekends.
Paul Padro, owner of Uncle Paulie’s Peruvian Restaurant in Maywood NJ, thought he had made up his mind to quit the restaurant business. After selling his Brooklyn eatery, he was unable to resist his passion for working with food. Paulie had fallen in love with the Peruvian cuisine of his wife Lauren’s native country. Yet when Brooklyn native Paulie went to visit Lauren’s family in Maywood, he found he had to travel to further towns like Passaic and Paterson, for the Peruvian food they love. In 2009, Paulie decided to open Uncle Paulie’s Peruvian Restaurant in Maywood, NJ.
In traveling to Peru on multiple occasions and having the opportunity to indulge himself with the culture and its cuisine, Paulie’s culinary knowledge of Peruvian dishes and cooking skills have grown. Now serving some of Peru’s best authentic dishes for the past 8 years, Uncle Paulie’s has been working side by side with his Peruvian chef, who has a culinary background of nearly 45 years in Peruvian cuisine. Enthusiastic to learn more, in 2015 he enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu in Miraflores, Peru. He took an advanced culinary course in Peruvian cuisine and trained with some of the top chefs’ in the industry.
Inside the colorful orange walls, decorated with paintings and tumi’s from Peru, the casual 48 seat restaurant serves up rotisserie chicken and traditional Peruvian dishes. Most customers come for the chicken but end up loving the lomo saltado – strips of pepper steak that are sautéed with onions and tomatoes, poured over a bed of French fries and served with a side of rice. Arroz Chaufa – Peruvian version of fried rice mixed with special seasoning. Ceviche is another popular selection, along with papa a la huancaina – boiled potatoes covered with a spicy cheese sauce, also available with fried yucca. Uncle Paulie’s offers up great catering services as well.
